“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
A FEATHER IN THE WIND.
Have you ever watched a feather that is being carried by the wind?
It floats so unincumbered. Free to soar, not knowing where it will descend.
How I envy that feather. The freedom which it portrays.
I long to be that carefree, in these disturbing, unsettling days.
To me, the feeling is a little like swinging high, in that tree swing, back home.
As a child saying, “Push me”, and then the wonderful sensation, as higher I would go.
The exhilaration of those few moments, although short, had a lasting effect.
The feeling is remembered, when on that past experience, I reflect.
I sat and watched a beautiful little bird fly gracefully through the air.
I thought, “That little bird isn’t like the feather. The feather had nothing to fear.”
But for all of God’s creatures, on the ground or in the air, danger lurks there.
Although the flying birds fly freely, of these dangers they are constantly aware.
I was reflecting on what a wonderful sensation a soft wind can bring.
But these words of advice, “in moderation”, are the key to most everything.
A cool breeze, relief from the hot sun, is very welcome and much needed.
But the “winds of destruction” are something to be feared and hopefully, avoided.
There are other things which are spread, like the wind and the feather.
Words of malice and hate spread from one person to another.
Likewise, words of love can be spread just as easily.
Words of love create harmony. Words of hate lead to tragedy.
But my greatest reflecting is centered on the existence of my soul.
My body, this house I dwell in, will wear out, wither, and grow old.
But I long for the day God releases my soul from this old body.
My soul will lift, unincumbered, with God. New residence. New body.
