“TERMS”

 

Looking back over the many years of my life, what would I like most to share?

The answer is easy.  On whose “terms” will you follow in your life here?

Will it be on “your terms” or “someone else’s terms” that caught your eye?

How very important the answer, for on this your destiny will lie.

 

From “the cradle to the grave” our lives are filled with “Terms” to be followed.

Growing up, “our parents’ terms” are the only terms we are allowed.

In school we are faced with the “terms of our chosen friends”.

A wish to “belong” often leads us in a direction we didn’t intend.

 

Looking back, I can see the cost of living on “someone else’s terms”.

Being unevenly yoked brings heartache and distrust, I learned.

Settling for a life that didn’t fit “my terms”, was a failure.

Lesson learned! Now, in “my terms”, someone must be measured.   

 

But what are “my terms”? Honesty, faithfulness, honor, trust and love.

The kind of love that is given to us by our Heavenly Father, above.

The kind of love that cares for another’s welfare.

The kind of love that says, “I will love you forever!”

 

Are the “terms” expected of you, contrary to your own?

Are you accepting another’s way because you are afraid of being alone?

Are you “caving in” to another’s terms even though you know they are wrong?

Do you “go with the flow” or do you “stay true” to your own?

 

Don’t let others dictate your “terms”.  Stay true to yourself, all the way.

Let the words, “my way or the highway” not be a threat to stay.

A relationship built on those words of threat can’t be healthy.

Life is too precious.  Don’t let their words take your future happiness away.

 

It’s easy to fall for “a glib tongue and false promises”.

Satan is just waiting for a gullible person, to pursue his wishes.

A clear mind and thoughtful consideration will sometimes save the day.

It might just keep you from making that mistake and take that threat away.

 

But in the final analysis, the only “Terms” that count are “God’s Terms”.

If our terms do not align with His, His acceptance of us may not be earned.

So, my advice to all would simply be, “accept God’s Terms” and all others, toss away.

Follow Him.  Live as He asks.  Don’t wait for tomorrow!   Start today.
